Carinthias minister president: “Floor tilers earn more than me”
The minister president of Carinthia is not satisfied with his salary. In the Friday issue of Austrias biggest newspaper “Kronen Zeitung” he is quoted as saying that he earns less than a floor tiler. An hourly wage of 16 Euro is not enough for a minister president, he thinks.
Cartinthias opposition parties can’t agree in such an opinion. The Orange party called “BZÖ” talks about a “slap in the face for every worker.” Socialdemocrats doubt about the truth of the allegations. Stefan Petzner of the Orange party declared that such statements prove the arrogance of the minister president. Petzner is the one who even wants to decrease the salary of the members of the provincial parliament down to 60 percent of the current wages.
Carinthias Socialdemocrat woman Ines Obex-Mischitz recollects that the minister president had to repeat a year in primary school. She adds that every floor tiler would be happy about a net salary of 5.720 Euro. The truth is that a floor tiler earns monthly 1.847 Euro, and that gross, she confirms.
Carinthias minister president Gerhard Dörfler knows how to get the attention of the medias. Some months ago he said that making a soup of stinging nettle is a good technique against the financial crisis. Dörfler also caused some uproar when he told a joke about a person with black skin in public.
