Austria has a new government!
Oh happy day! Oh happy day! The citizens of the Alpine Republic in the heart of Europe is able to gasp of relief. Austria has a new government!
But one thing stays the same. Austria is ruled by a big coalition between Socialdemocrats and Peoples Party. Only the persons change. New chancellor is the Socialdemocrat Werner Faymann. Vice chancellor is Josef Pröll from the Peoples Party. According to Austrias biggest newspaper, the famous Kronen Zeitung, the new government wants to care for a total new behaviour in Austrian politics. The two party leaders respond to eachother with “dearest Josef” and “dearest Werner”.
Such oozing charm does not impress the opposition parties of Freedom Party, BZÖ, and Greens. Freedom Party boss HC Strache is talking about a “coalition of the losers”. BZÖ chief Herbert Scheibner sees a “damage for the people”, and Greens elf Eva Glawischnig criticizes the missing climate protection in the programme of the government.
Strache goes one better and claims that Faymann and Pröll are two bosomfriends, who just pretended a little quarrel after the election. Strache thinks that the big coalition was already constituted before the election.
The Peoples Party received the most important ministerial posts. Justice, interior, and finances, are occupied by the Peoples party. The Socialdemocrats have the chancellor, the army, and the social ministerial posts like the women and the social minister, as well as the health and the education minister.
