Alexander Zach of Liberals and his Eurofighter affair
Yesterday the boss of the Austrian Liberals said good bye to his position as highest party member. His affair about the Eurofighter warplanes turned into a big mess, and he decided to resign only 5 days before the important election for the Austrian National Council.
Liberals prime candidate Heide Schmidt tried to calm the waves, and was talking about bravery and high moral standards of the Liberals in the Austrian politics.
The role of Alexander Zach in the Eurofighter affair is controversial and discombobulated. It was like two persons were living in his body.
One person acted as manager of a pr-agency, who took money from the Eurofighter manufacturerer to do lobbying. The other person of Zachs body acted as politican, who criticized the government for buying the Eurofighter warplanes.
Austrian medias report quite negative and even partly derisive. Now it seems to become even more difficult to find a place in the Austrian parliament after such kind of scandal.
Heide Schmidts election campaign slogans of fairness, honesty, and sincerity sound quite strange in the shadow of such an affair. Her limpid cover-up activities and attempts to put lipstick on the pig, makes the situation even more worse. Fairness, honesty, and sincerity would be the right answers now.
Alexander Zach claims that his resignation has nothing to do with a confession of guilt. Liberal prime candidate Heide Schmidt praised Zach as a man with bravery, high moral qualities, and reliability.
