Klagenfurt is disappointed about Football Euro 2008 gains
Three Football Euro 2008 matches were hosted in Klagenfurt.
There was hope for glamorous business with football fans, but when the event was over, the disappointment was huge.
Klagenfurts landlords are upset. The medias got the blame. They frightened the citizens with horrible stories about 5.000 English hooligans who wanted to have revenge for the elimination of their team against Croatia.
One newspaper even wrote that 5.000 English hooligans already arrived in Klagenfurt, searching for Croatian football fans. Other medias reported about a high increase of rapings, and a lot of destroyed restaurants.
The result of such a misinformation: Austrians locked themselfes in their homes and were not interested in public football parties. This caused empty cash desks for the landlords in the city centre, who wanted to sell beer and snacks to partying football fans.
