Fritzls new life in prison: death threats and fear
There is a story about the new life of Josef Fritzl in todays issue of Austrias biggest newspaper “Kronen Zeitung”.
Being in prison is not a new experience to him. At the end of the 60’s he was in prison for 18 months, because of several sexual attacks and rapes. Fritzl was also known as exhibitionist.
But this time the situation is a bit different. This time he won’t leave the prison after 18 months.
The Austrian newspaper also reports about the fear of Josef Fritzl in prison. He receives many death threats from inmates. The guards have to keep him away from other prisoners. Fritzl is allowed to go to the shower alone, and he can also go his daily walks in the prison yard without any other prisoners.
Most of the time Fritzl is sitting in his prison cell watching TV. He prefers to watch news and reports about himself. He may enjoy that a lot.
Also his appetite does not suffer in prison. Yesterday he has enjoyed fish with potatoes and red cabbage. The guards attest him a very good appetite.
You mean he’s not getting raped every day as his daughter was?! He’s being protected and will recieve medical attention when needed, unlike his daughter, who gave birth alone and his children, whom 1 died due to lack of medical attention? He’s having nice warm meals prepared for him?! It sounds like jail is too good for this monster. GOD will take care of his justice.

This man do not deserve the luxury of daily meals and protection from inmates for the next 15-20 years. He needs to go in front of GOD asap and answer to the the horrific acts he’s done.
I truly can’t imagine an awful enough punishment for this man. There is simply nothing the state of Austria can do to make him suffer as much as his daughter and children have.
What would happen if GOD does not exist?

Fish, potatoes and red cabbage yesterday. Wonder what’s on the menu for Josef Fritzl today? Looking at TV in his own private room (cell), segregated from all the other prisoners so no one harms him. According to prison administrators, he likes watching the television news. He’s a celebrity of sorts, don’t you know?
Well, in an earlier reply, I’ve already expressed what I feel should be his fate: a very slow torturous death.
I suppose that over time, there will be news stories about the ordeal that Elisabeth and her children were forced to endure in their prison. How intimidating was their father/grandfather? There was a kitchen in their dungeon. Did Elisabeth or one of her older imprisoned children have access to knives? One can’t say for sure what one would do, but I think if I were a woman (or in my younger years, a girl) subjected to daily rapes, I would plunge a knife into his chest — even if he were my father. Were there no knives, or if so, did his prisoners not have access to them?
There were two pictures on these Austrian newspaper Web sites that have puzzled me: One was with a story headlined “Elisabeth planned to run away.” The photo caption says the school picture shows Elisabeth, when she was 15. There are several teenaged girls in the photo, but Elisabeth is not identified. Which one is she?
The second picture ran with a story headlined “French woman raped for 28 years by father wants friendship with Elizabeth.” The photo is purportedly of Elisabeth at Christmastime in 1994 (by then she had been imprisoned for TEN years, and would have been 28 years old). The person pictured is a lovely, happy-looking girl, who appears to be a lot younger than 28, and who certainly shows no signs of having been abused.
No way..this guy should be executed..no buts……..
This guy is just getting it WAY to easy and he knows it. HE probably looked up all the laws and penalties long ago and knew that he would only get 15 yrs.
Hello, Austrian Police “TAKE AWAY” the Telivision!! Dont let him gloat in his ill gotten fame.If he wants to watch T.V put him out in the common room with at least two or three of the other inmates EVERYDAY for several hours. He is proud of himself. He is laughing with the Devil while he eats his fine meals. I looked up Apricot Dumplins They looked delicouse.
If anyone deserves to” BURN in HELL ” it is Josef Fritzl. Don’t worry WORLD he will not get away with this!! Eventually he will get everything that is coming to him.. Even if he repents to God on his death bed. He would have to be truelly sincere. I dont think he has it in him. He must have sold his soul to the Devil long ago.

I have become increasingly horrified at this Fritzl issue. My initial reaction was that his wife absolutely MUST have known what was going on and,at best, turned a blind eye. It now appears that separate holidays were taken by husband and wife, indicating to me that there was always one spouse at home to ensure that basics could be provided to the imprisoned relatives. Further, reports now indicate that former tenants had good ideas of what was going on, but – according to one at least – elected not to report their fears to authorities for fear of losing their rented accomodation. I am an Englishman living in America and am appalled that a modern society could conveniently ignore enormous warning signs ………what about a Police investigation when the daughted went ‘missing’, especially in light of this monster’s past history? I have just now additionally read that it was ‘common knowledge’ within the neighborhood that something wrong was going on at the house – SHAME on those neighbors & former tenants for their disgraceful hush, hush philosphy.

Daughter disappears after which dad starts hanging out in the cellar half the time, especially at night and won’t let anyone in or near it. How could anyone not put two and two together? A crystal clear cause and effect if I’ve ever seen one. The wife knew what was going on!

Turning a blind eye, denial, or fear are not acceptable excuses for allowing this to happen right in your own home.

I can only feel pity for the law obedient citizens of countries like Austria. One can practically do anything there, kill, rape, etc. The punishment is a joke. In my opinion nothing is going to ever change there ! The country has been taken over by the liberals, and thanks to them Fritzl will live in prison cell alone, but happily ever after ! He will be rewarded on daily basis for his horrible crimes. He will watch satellite TV, adult channels, movies, etc. He will be able to go outside whenever he wants. He will be served the best food on Earth. Perhaps he will even have his waiter. I think that prison guards will be looking in admiration, and jealousy at this scumbag ! Perhaps the Austrian Prime Minister will pay him a visit in prison, with the red carpet, orchestra, fireworks, media circus… Fritzl is a celebrity ! Don’t you understand it ? In a country like Austria, that’s big news ! They will make sure that the rest of this criminal’s life is never-ending happiness. At a dinner party this weekend in Canada, conversation turned to Austria’s Josef Fritzl. We expressed our horror and disgust at the evil, cruelty and depravity of this man. This case is deeply troubling and frightening. We wondered about Rosemarie. How did she not suspect a thing, when almost annually for a period of time Elisabeth’s babies arrived at her home, coupled with Fritzl’s obviously bizarre behavior. The burning haunting question for Rosemarie must have been, where and how is my Elisabeth? If allowed, the plea of insanity which the lawyer is now claiming he will make will bring more devastating shame than ever to Fritzl, his lawyer, his family, to Austria and to all of us beyond. This man must face himself, his depravity, his cruelty, his evil. He needs to face his crimes and he needs to face them squarely. Claiming “insanity” perpetuates the lie that he has lived.

I live in down under australia and this story has disturbed me for days. Neighbours who knew of the abuse when Elisabeth was still in the outside world failed to anything. How can people live with themselves knowing that a child is being abused next door? The police who brought her back when she ran away did not think of pressing her for reasons for her unhappiness.
Josef Fritzl in his lifetime will not be punished enough for what he did to his daughter and her children. She was imprisoned for 24 years in a windowless dungeon, He will get at most 20 years with opportunities to walk outside. She was raped and beaten for 30 years, he will be protected by humanitarian laws. She lost her childhood and her youth and most of her adult life, he will only lose his relative freedom in old age.
The injustice of it all angers me, more so when a lawyer wants this monster to escape jail and be put up in comfortable pyschiatric quarters.
The neighbors, wife and Joe Fritzl should be thrown in prison. I got a funny feeling that he may have had an accomplice in this. Creep may have pimped her out as well. How could the neighbors be so scared of this man. If I ever saw him I would put on a pair of steel toed boots and repeatedly kick him in his privates.
This man should be placed in the cell where he kept his daughter for the rest of his life…Except he shoul dbe chained and gagged, and tortured once a day for what he did to his own daughter…. Why on earth would the Austrian Government allow him to adopt 3 children when he was a known rapist… My father is a Holocaust Survivor from Austria, and he was constantly surrounded by evil men like Fritzl…. This man has no soul, and will get what he deserves in the end….I hope the Austrian Government changes a few laws and allows him to be put to death.. Or better, release him into the general population of the prison system there, and allow the inmates to punish him… My heart is aching for Elizabeth and her children… I have not been able to sleep well thinking how God could have allowed her to suffer such misery….I hope this family will be able to find some happiness in the world…..

I’m totally shocked at the lenient prison sentence given to Fritzl for such a horrific crime. He’s a disgusting, shameful, arrogant bastard that doesn’t deserve the comfortable existence he’s getting in prison. What’s wrong with the Austrian laws where someone can commit such terrible abuses to children & get treated like a hero. He should be locked up in a windowless cell for the rest of his life – without the gourmet meals.
What kind of message is Austria giving to Fritzl’s daughter Elisabeth & his other children for letting him off so easy for such horrible crimes committed to them? Seems to me that the victims have less rights than the criminals in Austria – SHOCKING!!!
I think the mentality of Austrians is what is to blame. It is a country of lax laws, were criminals get away with their crimes. Now I understand why Nazism started in their country. We should all boycott Austria until their laws are changed. It is obvious there is a problem in that country, there must be more children suffering, or abusive mothers and fathers, it is their heritage. If they do not change, remove them from the European Union. Pass the word, don’t go to Austria, don’t buy Austrian products, there are criminals loose in the country. What a stupid government they have. CHANGE, it is 2008! If this country has legal prostitution, if children are abused regularly there, yet this is a 100% Catholic country. What does this say? May I suggest that we give some credit to the Austrian authorities for their decisive action in arresting this monster, Fritzl, on hearing daughter Liesel’s report and accusations. But I wonder how Fritzl’s lawyer can possibly speak of his client as a human being, or how this lawyer can dare to suggest that Fritzl was not responsible for his appalling crimes. All along, – for about 25 years, Fritzl calculated every sinister move that he made: everything was planned!
Now we hear that he is upset!!! – upset at the furore and hostile reactions. Chris’s letter deserves attention, for Fritzl must be creased with laughter at the “softly-softly” approach of his gaolers. But does Fritzl’s lawyer from Vienna wonder that the authorities want Fritzl to die in prison? Perhaps, mind you, the best justice would be meted out if this monster were indeed to be left to the mercy of his fellow-inmates. He would not last ten minutes.
Yet we must never forget Fritzl’s victims, – all of them, – yes, including his wife. His reign of terror engulfed her, too, I believe. Nor should we be too hard on Austria’s liberal traditions. In the U.S.A. and in Britain, too, we do too little for the comfort and peace of victims.

I have never heard a more disturbing story! My heart goes out to Elizabeth and her children. I sincerely hope with the right treatment and therapy they are able to resume a somewhat normal life. I also hope Elizabeth will in time make economic profit from this vicious attack on her life by selling her story and for the sake of a better future I sincerely hope someone honest will be there to protect her innocence in the business sector. I would hate to think someone will come along and take her for all she has left for a second time in her life. No doubt her skills will be insufficiant to ever be able to support her children who she no doubtedly loves with all she has. I pray fortune finally shines on her without sheisters taking advantage of her naive manner.
Now to Josef whats his face!! Death is too good and quick. Lock him in a room with a toilet and basin with just enough space to stand straight. Through an opening in the cell door give him just enough food to keep him alive. Send in a fellow prisinor now and that that would enjoy his company in every way, someone stronger than himself so he could not refuse. NO one ever speak to him again except for the lucky guy that gets to visit him on intimite visitation days. Ignore his pleas for help and bangings on walls doors and ceilings. In Burma, reports are coming out that perhaps as many as 100,000 people may have perished in the aftermath of a cyclone, many of them the most vulnerable – children and aged. Their lives were snuffed out quickly, as they were torn from the warmth and comfort of their homes and families.
We are indeed saddened when we hear of unjustifiable acts of nature such as this. Such acts were not the creations by other humans directly, but showcase the treacherous talents of a weather system gone wild.

When I hear of how lax and callous the legal system is in Austria, I become angry and sick. What Josef may recieve is a perversion of justice and makes me want to vomit. When one has an opportunity to correct a perversion in nature, and does nothing, then a nation should bear the disgrace. This man should not get a death sentence, because death would be freedom for him. He should slowly be tortured, he should be kept hungry for days and people should sit in front of him and eat good food, he should not be given water to drink until he can see salt in front of his eyes. He should be kept in a shit hole and see, smell, feel shit all around him. And, i think it is a huge shame on the people of that neighbourhood that did nothing for YEARS altogether. You call yourselves civilised. You should be ashamed to be alive. And the lawyer for this man… Have you no fear of what `s going to happen to you, your family, name and profession once you decided to take on this case? How can you look at yourself in the mirror everyday? Would you have defended this man if he had raped your daughter? Would some of the neighbour have kept quiet if it were their children that had been attacked or raped? That TV should be be dismantled and some of the sharp parts should be shoved up his behind. The truly saddening thought of all this is that no punishment will ever correct the horror that this man imposed upon his daughter, and even if he was to be punished in all the ways described above, a man with a mind so lacking empathy might never actually feel the deep remorse and the wrenching level of guilt that we want him to feel. We want him to suffer and we want so desperately to believe there is a hell waiting for him because WE are suffering so much with our empathy for the children and for Elizabeth… Yet, his recent assertion that growing up under the legacy of Hitler was a reason for his violence should not be taken as a mere excuse: without healing people do become warped from past traumas; Hitler sent a wave of pain that still persists just like any other dictator, just like any other violent man or woman, like any other invasion of a poor country for the interests of a greater country…. our horror is at how such a monster comes to be, our dilemma is how do we punish such a monster, but just step back and it all adds up: I am quite sure this monster was beaten by other monsters when he was a child, or exposed to brutalities or harsh values. My employer is the same age as this man and he too grew up in Austria and was subjected to a nightmarish childhood under his parents, then under a boarding school’s authority. Some of us are strong enough to heal when the suffering is occurring, and some of us are not. It is my one consolation with this tragedy that Fritzl AT LEAST knew he was an emotional mutant, and judging by what the neighbors might have known, he may have thought he was not alone; other Austrians may have been warped in their own ways too, though much less so than Fritzl. I am from the south in the US and I will never forget an article I read years ago about a study done on extremely violent black male inmates in a South Carolina prison–though they were chosen randomly, a DNA study traced a large number of them back to the SAME slave master over 200 years ago–a man who was known to be the most brutal and violent in the whole state. How are monsters like Fritzl made? By other monsters, and by a culture that doesn’t heal its wounds and open its eyes. After this story I prayed for Elizabeth and her children but I’m not going to waste my breath on praying Fritzl lands in fire and brimstone, which St. Augustine made up to put fear into Christians and increase the power of the church, but I pray that that wave of violence still festering in Austria and in all areas of the world will heal, and to do that means being filled with a strong sense of love. Laws are not what we need, healing is–take a look at Australia’s recent apology to the Aborigines as an example. Wanting Fritzl to be castrated, raped, etc., is almost a comically brief sense of justice and gratification for us when compared to the heinousness of his crime, so instead, try to deal with this horror with a reminder that all of us are in constant state of healing and need of compassion because we are ALL connected to each other and to our histories together.
Ever since all of this came out, I can’t stop thinking about Elisabeth and her children. I pray that the Austrian government will think about them as well and change their laws. If you let that evil man go after all he did, well, you are letting them relive all of their horror all over again. Can you imagine all they really went through? None of us were there to see it, hear it, feel it. We can only begin to comprehend some of what they actually went through-trying to put ourselves in their place. We couldn’t possibly begin to know what their life was on a daily basis. With that being said…..AUSTRIA-THE WORLD IS WATCHING YOU!!!!! If you let this evil man “serve his time” or “pay his dues” for fifteen or twenty years, then what are you telling Elisabeth, Kerstin, Stephhan, and Felix? If you give that man a slap on the wrist after all he did to them, and even the way now he is still trying his control methods on authoriities and the world by saying things like, “I took care of them all,” “I meant well,” “I’m no monster-I could have killed them all if I wanted and nobody would have ever known,”-all the kinds of things a control freak says to manipulate the situation to make himself out to be the victim/hero…..if you give that man a slap on the wrist after all he did to them, then you are slapping Elisabeth, Kerstin, Stephhan, and Felix right in the face! Authorities-if you say her story is credible after only one time of talking to her-then you are as gullible as you were when you were told Elisabeth ran away to join a cult, dropped off three babies on the door step for her parents that “she supposedly ran away from to begin with to join this cult” to raise and believed that garbage. I’m sorry, I am just so outraged. I think what outrages me more is that as much as I know the authorities want to treat this matter delicately, but in the same sense to me, it almost seems like if they wait a while until the smoke clears a little, then they can kind of brush it under a rug some, trying to bring about some fairness to both sides-that way there will be some “peace.” Let me tell you, if you don’t really make Mr. Frizl be responsble for what he has done, not only to his family, but to the country, the world, there will be no peace. Showing him some partiality would not be a good thing. If you show him any partiality, then the whole world will say that Josef Fritzl even had the Austrian government under his control. Are you going to let him control you, and put you into darkness from the world so to speak, or are you going to control his future a shed some light into the world for the sake of the real victims here? Christine I understand your point too but I wonder if it was your daughter or sister that was robbed of 24 years and underwent such cruel viciousness and had seven children 3 that were plucked away at birth and one dying because no one was able to help, if you would still be so empathetic. I know there have been many that have suffered in the war and post war years. However lets not forget that this man knew the law and he broke it. He knew there would be consequences should he be caught. It was after all pre-meditated as he had this cellar built so his plan to keep his own daughter captive would never be discovered. Now he must face the consequences. He had many years to mellow and perhaps rethink his actions. Even now it was not through his concience that Elizabeth is free it was by chance and incident that she has come from hell back to what she herself told her children the world upstairs was (heaven). I am from Australia and yes we did say ’sorry’ to the indiginous people of australia but I find that these two cases are not even comparable. Every country has had it’s past, many with not so good ones. Our generation has come to terms with that the same as many other countries new generation. We want the world to move forward and all nationalities and races to unite. This of course is so difficult in many cases as you can see we still have many problems in the world where people don’t have the same views. JF does not have a defence in his favour just because he was beaten himself as a child and underwent cruelty. In my day I also got a few slaps from my parents who grew up during the war in Germany. It made me look at my children and want to be a better parent. I love my own parents and understood as I grew older that they knew no better and only did what they knew to be the right thing then. Times change and people evolve. I never doubted though my parents loved me and would never have inflicted absolute terror on me especially since they experienced it to a much worse degree then i could ever have imagined. My mother especially was virtually what we would classify an abused child today. Then it was just what was the norm. My mum because of her childood decided we would never experience that because she knew how awful it was. We were diciplined with a few smaks but shy from what my parents had experienced. IT WAS A DECISION THEY MADE to be better parents. Joseph F. never did such a thing and had problems even before he locked HIS OWN DAUGHTER up for 24 years. He did this for pleasure and self gratification. NOT for a day or a week or a year but 24 Years. I will never eccept it was because of Hitler!!

This is the most disturbing story I have ever heard in my life…. if a man takes a gun and kills several people I still say this story is tops.

One thing i know for sure, Josef Fritzl will never be free again. Austria’s legislature met in an emergency session to correct their errors. Austrians are very upset about all this. It’s a tragedy. And sadly just this week an Austrian axed his wife, child, parents, and in-law! Plus this case is the third in 2 years like it!
I feel so much compassion for Elisabeth. For over 4 years she was alone in the cellar in a damp room. Then as a baby grew inside her, she had to worry about the baby’s birth. She must have hoped that her jailer would let her go to the hospital. That hope was dashed when he produced medical books and abandoned her for the birth. Then as she lay there in labor she must have been terrified despite having had the books (assuming he didn’t make that up). When a woman is frightened they say that her birth is much more painful, She has stated that the births was very painful. She must have known that incestual children have deformities. After the 1st baby was born in this cold cellar, she must have been terrified of how to properly care for it – how to cut the umbilical cord, dispose of the placenta, clean up, keep warm, feed herself, and so forth. Even wild femaie monkeys help the new mother! And this child was her first companion. Now that dear friend his gravely ill.
It was soon after the first baby was born that the animal, Josef, started raping her again because her second child is only one year younger. Now she had two children in the room, one only about a year old! The police say he would rape her right in front of the children.

I think that the town should tear down the horrible house and build a beautiful park. In the park should be a beautiful statue of a young and lovely Elisabeth. There should be some sort of recognition of the torture. An organization should be established for the purpose of recognizing the signs of abuse and what to do about it.

What’s wrong with prisons in Austria? The b*tard Josef Fritzl gets hot meal to eat, you sick authorities, push his own excreta down his throat. How can any one show mercy or sympathy to this beast and most of all the authorities who are also partly at fault for believing all his lies about her joining the cult and the babies at his door step. Honnestly Elisabeth and her kids have been a major portion of my thoughts, ever since this case surfaced, I’ve been so troubled. Please prison authorities treat him like a beast and not a human, thrash him while in prison, deprive him of food and shove an IV down his dick. I hate the b*tard, I anxious to hear when the torture would begin for him.

I have followed the Fritzl and Elisabeth case with huge sorrow, my heart skips a beat everytime I think of Elisabeth, and do share my views with Karen above, this unfortunate incident is totally unbelievable for a lot of people, but then if you genuinely try to investigate with a few very unfortunate kids, who are subject to different forms of abuse from THE ELDERLY in thier family, it will be quite clear that it can not always be cried from the rooftops, I myself have witnessed events within my family, which could have borned dreadful results for the misdoer, but since the same were not reported, the dredgeful misdoer is still at large guiltfree and scotfree. It can be understood that the atmosphere created by Mr. Josef was a very strict one, for which his wife Rosemarie can be blamed as she bore the torture metted to her, and later let her kids adjust to the tyrant atmosphere at home, this must have further elevated josefs courage to do as he wants with whoever. he become the king in the kingdon he had created, I believe that josef must have abused all of his offsprings, I am still reeling under shock whenever I try to understand how his first daughter Kerstin must have grown in the cellar for 18 years, did not the bastard ever thougth of providing school etc to her, just for the sake of having a sex slave for himslf he has put 8 lives at stake, is he bigger than 8 living people, all said and done 1 thought just never goes out of my mind which is “WHERE WAS GOD FOR ELISABETH AND HER KIDS FOR THE 24 YEARS” IS GOD UP THERE, THEY SAY ONE GETS JUSTICE, I DO NOT THINK THAT ELISABETH AND HER KIDS CAN EVER GET JUSTICE from the world.

This ‘human being’ Fritzl’ is using bullshit psychological excuses,
‘oh poor me, I wanted to fuck my mum, I’m just a Freudian victim, but it’s all well-intentioned, I was just scared of her turning out to be a delinquent, I loved my daughter and my incestuous kids’.
I’m studying Sade’s ‘Justine’ at the moment, 17th C French literature/ pornography, where pretty much the exact same scenario happens, except it’s monks repeatedly raping various girls/ women who they keep locked away in a basement for life. All the bad men in this book have their own extensive morality explained to justify their acts.
What I conclude from it with regards to this case, is YES human nature is by no means divine or Godly (even generous acts are hardly ever altruistic), YES we all have ‘impure’ sexual fantasies’ if not even sado-masochistic or incestuous Freudian ones, (whether subconscious or not) and YES some of our unhealthy witch-hunting obsessions through the media are just as barbaric and inhumane as many other depraved aspects of our human nature (that whole ‘watching a car accident in the hopes of seeing a dead body instinct), but COME ON!

Let these prisoners have the instinct of ‘right and wrong’ as being themselves victims of incarceration will mean they will relate only know too well the suffering inflicted on his daughter. Not the jurors or you and I.

He’s getting fed, being given entertainment, AND has sunlight in his cell. That’s a lot more than she had already. Let him be subject to this terrible imbalance in ‘nature’ too, and to be judged by the brutality he unleashed on his victims, who were no doubt made to feel the ultimate humiliation and paradoxical feelings of the Stockholm syndrome, in respecting or needing their captor.
Think of poor Genie who suffered the same crime in 1970s America and never had the satisfaction of justice, since she was mentally retarded for having been confined since birth, and her ‘dad’ killed himself when found out.
For as evil as Joseph Fritzl appears to be please remember there are no winners in this case. He himself was the “victim” of his mother, unless of course he is lying about that too. I’m beginning to think he may have made up that story as another ploy to gain sympathy. Somebody should really check it out. The “punishment” he is getting in prison sounds like a holiday compared to what he doled out to Elisabeth and her children. He should have been sent to a common prison with no amenities. But, maybe the Austrian government figures they have already had to clean up the big mess this guy has made, and don’t want to have to clean up more after a fellow inmate murders him.
Put Josef Fritzl in Indian Prison not in Austrian Prison. Nobody will threaten him but he will suffer a living hell while he lives.
