Crash: pile-up of cars on Austrian motorway cost one human life
by admin March 26th, 2008 in Local News
60 cars were involved in a pile-up yesterday morning on the motorway “A1″ between Salzburg and Vienna.
One Swiss woman lost her life when she got out of her broken vehicle, and was hit by a passing car.
The police confirmed that 31 persons were injured. They were brought to the next hospitals in the vicinity. Some heavy injured ones with an helicopter. The hospitals had to cancel their surgeries to provide the best care for the road casualties.
The reason for the horrible crash was heavy snowfall and the high speed of some cars. Even a warning by a flash system next to the road for lower speed was ignored by some hellbent drivers. Such improprietous behaviour led directly into the disaster.
The section of the motorway close to the town of Seewalchen in the federal state of Upper Austria is known as very dangerous. It’s not the first pile-up of cars there. Even redevelopments for more security could not take away the danger of that place.
