Child benefit: more money for babies in Austria
Good news for the ones in Austria, who are waiting for an addition to their families in the next year.
The 1st January 2008 should be the magic day when the new child benefit regulation comes into force.
“I am very happy about such a result”, says Austrias women minister Doris Bures of the Socialdemocrats, after the nerve-racking negociations with Peoples Party health minister Andrea Kdolsky.
The additional earnings limit for mothers was increased from 14.600 EUR up to 16.200 EUR. Bures wanted to remove the additional earnings limit, but Kdolsky refused. So the increase looks like a compromise between the two leading parties.
In the new regulation the period of the child benefit purchase was changed into a flexible system. Parents can choose a monthly payment of 800 EUR for 18 months, or 436 EUR for 36 months.
