Premiere of laboratory for heart catheterization in Europe
by admin March 15th, 2007 in Health
For the first time in Europe a stereotactic heart catheterization laboratory was opened in the Cardiology department of internal medicine at Vienna General Hospital (AKH). Three million Euros were spent to arrange it. For cardiologists this is a new way to treat heart illnesses.
This laboratory is composed of two large magnets with a weight of 1,800 kilograms per each. With the help of the powerful magnetic field the catheters and wires are driven, what will allow achieving more precise interventions on the heart. The device will be used for the treatment of coronary heart disease and elimination of heart rhythm disturbances.
Until now this equipment was available only in the USA.
