Struggle against alarming lack of physical activity among children
The Austrian Obesity Report 2006 showed alarming results: already school-age-children suffer from overweight more and more often.
Today about 10 percent of them are overweight and about 5 percent are obese. Against this maldevelopment the SPORTUNION with the movement- and nutrition-oriented public healthcare project UGOTCHI makes an important step forward.
With the slogan “Was Hänschen nicht lernt, lernt Hans nimmer mehr (A tree must be bent while it is young)” the nationwide initiative was started in 700 classes and 100 schools in all provinces of the country in order to teach schoolchildren to increase their physical activity and for the deliberate healthy nutrition at their most favorable age. The research studies show, that the measures of everyday moving hours and healthy nutrition lessons are the absolute need in childhood.
