Food report 2006: Austrians eat less meat

The consumption of meat decreases every year about three percent. Every fifth woman stopped eating meat. The Austrians on the best was to become a nation of vegetarians?
Austrians also became more sensitive about the origin of meat, quality and prefer regional products.
The new food report shows that more than 50 percent of the Austrians try to nourish themselfes more conscious than 10 years ago. But one things is still the same: the favourite dish for every fourth Austrian is the Viennese Schnitzel.
80% of Austrians think that good food should belong to a good life style. The Austrians spend the same amount of money for food, as for their free time activities.
Genetic engineering food is still no option for the Austrian eater. He prefers the “bio” labeled products. The sales of bio-products amounts about 500 Mio EUR.
