The breeding of the Austrian Alpine salmon started 30 years ago in the Lower Austrian village of Gutenstein. Now the salmon becomes more and more to an export hit. The federal government of Lower Austria worked out a quality securing program with the breeders.
The fish who was brought to Lower Austria from the polar sea is accepted as very healthy, and breeded in 16 domestic enterprises.
According to the plans of the federal government of Lower Austria, the export sales of the Alpine salmon should be optimized. Especially Germans are very interested. A top restaurant proprietor from Cologne orders every week.
Compared to the normal salmon, the Alpine salmon is quite expensive, but the demand exceeds the supply distinctly.
The federal government of Lower Austria wants to support the breeders also with new foundations and advertising.
