This year no punch drink on the Stephansplatz square
The head of the Inner city Viennese district Ursula Stenzel (Peoples Party) leads a strict regency. Now she wants to bann the punch drink from the Stephansplatz square, which is very popular during christmas time.
Even the punch drink hut of the club “Save the Stephansdom cathedral” is not allowed to serve punch there this christmas, to collect money to renovate the St. Stephans cathedral. The club fears a huge loss of its source of income.
Ursula Stenzel: “I want more respect around the cathedral. There should be a zone of respect around the Stephansdom cathedral. I insist to accept that.”
There will be about 200 punch drink huts in Vienna during christmas time. 50% of them belong to commercial enterprises, the other half serves charitable purposes.
