Education minister Elisabeth Gehrer says good bye
by admin October 6th, 2006 in PoliticsThe Austrian education minister Elisabeth Gehrer has enough of politics and resigns her function.
In 1995 Wolfgang Schüssel, who was vice-chancellor in that time, brought her into the government as education minister instead of Erhard Busek. 4 years later she became the vice-boss of the Peoples Party.
The main reason of her retreat were the continous attacks from the Socialdemocrats and the Greens. Gehrer thinks those critics were below her level, hurting and offending. “I don’t want to work in politics under such conditions”, she said. Gehrer expects some words of regret.
Socialdemocrats and Greens are not sad about her retreat.
