Chancellor Schüssel makes female politicans upset
The female polticans in Austria are upset and horrified about an interview of chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel in the daily newspaper “Kurier”.
According to the newspaper, chancellor Schüssel praises the high participation of women in the government with the words: “If I would be left-wing, the whole feminist troupe would be flattened infront of me”.
The reaction of the vice-boss from the Greens Eva Glawischnig was pure horror. Also the women from the Socialdemocrats are not happy about such words. They talk about an “unbelievable gaffe”.
Glawischnig marked the statement as “macho saying of the worst kind” from a cheeky chancellor who enjoys to deride women. Glawischnig is waiting for an excuse.
Also the federal manager of the Socialdemocratic women Stadlbauer shows her dissatisfaction. She thinks that sentence has the lowest level and sounds like pub jargon. It shows what the chacellor thinks about women, she added.
